Bird on a Wire

Driving home from a busy weekend after attending a writer’s conference, I started to run through everything in my mind. I met wonderful writers, editors and agents as well as those special courageous ones who know they have a message to share but are just getting started out on the writing journey. I learned practical ways to write such as those dreaded outlines, to writing with my unique voice, to singing old hymns, to finding out how to write for those “crazy” charismatics. One thing that was confirmed – I AM ONE! But I already knew that.

At times I sensed I was in the wrong place and other times, I was grateful and knew that God had a higher purpose. I pressed in to hear God’s voice specifically to me. I left the event feeling overwhelmed, insecure but at the same time inspired and encouraged. I think it will take some time to digest everything, little by little each day.

But part way home from my journey, I looked up and saw this one bird sitting on a wire all by himself. The wire was above the busy highway with cars traveling north and cars traveling south. The bird was just taking it all in. My heart dropped wondering where all his friends or family might be. At the same time, he seemed secure in his position.

I sensed the Lord was saying to me, “Don’t worry and don’t be concerned where you are going. Just as I take care of that little bird, I will take care of you. Yes, the journey gets lonely at times, no one around to fly with and everyone bustling here and there but rest knowing I know the plans I have specifically for you.” My heart began to settle down and my hope for the future exploded with anticipation. His love for me is so overwhelming!

Jeremiah 29:11-13
“For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the LORD, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. 12 Then you will call upon me and come and pray to me, and I will listen to you. 13 You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart.” NIV

Marilyn, I too came home overwhelmed from the conference. It was wonderful and it was thought provoking. At times I felt like I was drowning and would I ever find my direction among so many accomplished and established authors. At other times, I was grateful to be among kindred souls who were wanting to support me in my beginning steps. Yes, I, too, am doing a lot of digesting of the tons of information and seeking the Lord as to what to do next. He has given me two steps. That is fine enough for now! 🙂 Hugs to you!

Lynn, it was a pleasure meeting you. Two steps – that’s fabulous. As one of the workshop leaders said, it’s all about consistency. So I am with you – let’s do it!

    Hi Marilyn,
I love that … “my hope for the future exploded with anticipation”. Remain in Him and His word and you will see yourself walking in the place He has called you to. How very exciting!
